We all see the perfectly red and round tomatoes in our grocery stores and
farmers' markets but not all produce fits our ideal image of what to eat.
Unfortunately, tons of perfectly good food are wasted because of these
unrealistic ideals. On January 26 at 7 p.m., come to the Deborah Rawson
Memorial Library on River Road in Jericho for a showing of Just Eat It, a
74-minute film which deals with these issues.
The producers of Just Eat It explore the issue of food waste from farms to
retail establishments. The movie follows their pledge to quit grocery
shopping and survive on foods that are deemed unmarketable. Winner of a
number of documentary filmmaking awards including Best Environmental Film at
the Sedona International Film Festival, Best Documentary at the Leo Awards
and the Lake Erie Arts and Film Festival, and a finalist for both the James
Beard Award and the Scripps Howard Award for Environmental Reporting, this
fast-pace film is both educational and informative.
Just Eat It is the first event of the Jericho Energy Task Force's Winter
Movie/Lecture Series. It is being shown in conjunction with the Chittenden
Solid Waste District. Light refreshments will be served but this will be a
waste-free event so please bring your own bowls and cups. For more
information, contact 872-8111.
