Rick Winston will present the first of a three-session seminar this winter on the history of American Independent Film, held on three Saturday afternoons at Pie in the Sky Inn in Marshfield. Each session will feature many film clips, with plenty of time for discussion. The first session will focus on the pioneers of the movement such as Maya Deren, Leo Hurwitz, Sidney Meyers, and more recently, John Cassavetes and Haskell Wexler, going from 1925-1970.
The second session (February 25) will be about the "indie" explosion of the 1980's (Spike Lee, Jim Jarmusch, John Sayles, the Coen Brothers, and more). The third session (March 11) will take us from the 90s to the present, with the changing definitions of what constitutes an "independent" film. Cost for the class will be $40 for each, or $100 for all three Saturday afternoons. To reserve a spot, contact Rick at or 454-7103.
