You're invited to help us celebrate the restoration of the Town's historic Seguin Covered Bridge. Experts call the bridge, built in 1849, one of the finest in the state!
VTrans engineers will describe the repairs that were done and why they were needed, and Dan Cole, the president of the Charlotte Historical Society, will talk about the thriving mills built on the site in the 1790s. Dan will also relate the story of a murder that took place near the bridge in the Civil War -- the result of inflamed passions and drink!
You'll be able to talk with direct descendants of the Seguin family whom the bridge is named for from 3-4 p.m. at a reception in the original millworkers' dormitory. (Some of the Seguins are coming from a considerable distance.)
Don't miss this chance to celebrate our common history. Friends from West Charlotte who have never seen the bridge are especially invited!
Directions: From Spear's Store, go a mile south and turn left on Prindle Road. Follow Prindle for a bit more than 2 miles, always bearing right. Turn right at the sign for Roscoe Road and park on the right.
From the south end of Spear Street: Go through the Quinlan Covered Bridge (built by the same craftsman) and immediately turn left on the unmarked dirt road that borders Lewis Creek. Follow Lewis Creek Road (you'll pass Baldwin Road) until it intersects Roscoe Road. Turn left and keep on Roscoe Road until you see the creek again on your left. Park on the right side of Roscoe Road.
Some seating will be available, and space is reserved for wheelchairs.
NOTE: Roscoe Road will be closed from 1-4 p.m. Sunday to protect volunteers setting up the site and guests parking their cars and leaving.
