Public Meeting for Catherine-Stebbins Planning Project

Past event
Jan 31, 2017, 7 to 9 PM

The public will get a chance to help envision and provide feedback on draft concepts for future development of the area around the intersections of Catherine St., Market St. and Stebbins St., located just a block from the core of downtown St. Albans, at a public meeting to be held at St. Albans City Hall at 7PM on Tuesday, January 31st.

The Catherine, Market, Stebbins area plan is intended to identify ways in which revitalization of key sites can serve as catalysts for economic growth in this area of the downtown. The work is being conducted for the Northwest Regional Planning Commission (NRPC), and on behalf of the City of St. Albans, by White and Burke along with Sanborn Head Environmental and SE Group. A local Project Steering Committee is guiding the effort. The project is funded by the Northwest Region Brownfields Program (NRBP). The NRBP’s purpose is to level the playing field for developing brownfield properties by helping owners and prospective developers address environmental challenges through environmental assessment, cleanup planning and cleanup funding. The Catherine, Market, Stebbins area planning process positions the City, current and prospective property owners to apply for future funding to support revitalization and environmental remediation of properties in the study area.

The meeting on January 31st is intended to foster a community-wide discussion on a vision for the area, tempered by what is possible both in the long and short term from an economic standpoint.

There will also be a public viewing of some of the visuals from the project on Jan. 27 from 4-6pm during the first session of In Good Taste, in the City Council Chamber in City Hall.
