What: People and organizations from across Vermont are coming together for a Women’s March from Montpelier High School at 1:00pm followed by a Unity Rally at 2:00pm on the Statehouse lawn. Held in solidarity with the National Women’s March on Washington and sister marches around the country and the world, the Montpelier march is developed and led by women, and welcomes everyone to stand together for parity, equity, dignity and justice for all women.

“Now is the time to come together in a sea of pink to show the incoming Trump administration and Congress that we will never back down and we will never stop fighting,” says Planned Parenthood VT Action Fund President and CEO Meagan Gallagher. “Planned Parenthood provides important access to health care for young people, the LGBTQ community, people of color, immigrants, and people of all faiths, backgrounds, and incomes. We are proud to stand together at this historic moment as we march to protect the progress that we’ve made.”

The march concludes at the Statehouse lawn with a Unity Rally to join communities across our state with one voice against hatred and injustice. The Unity Rally will feature speakers, art and music.

Speakers and presenters will include: Former Vermont Governor, Madeleine Kunin; Founder and Director of Black Lives Matter VT, Ebony Nyoni; Planned Parenthood VT Action Fund President and CEO Meagan Gallagher; State Representative Kiah Morris; 2015 Vermont Teacher of the Year, Rebecca Haslam; founding member of Rainbow Umbrella of Central VT, Linda Quinlan; Mary Gerisch, former Human Rights lawyer, water & indigenous people’s rights advocate; former Gubernatorial Candidate Sue Minter and Burlington High School’s nationally celebrated spoken word performance group, Muslim Girls Making Change.

Organizations working to advance social, economic and environmental justice will present information and opportunities to get involved. Participating and sponsoring organizations include Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, 350VT, ACLU-VT, Main Street Landing, the Alchemist, Burton Snowboards, Emerge Vermont, the Peace and Justice Center, Vermont Works for Women, Black Lives Matter VT, Rights & Democracy, and many others.

There will be a bus with wheelchair accessibility shuttling between the Statehouse and Montpelier High School. This is an inclusive, accessible and family-friendly afternoon of events.
