Islands Students at Folsom, Grand Isle, and Learning Adventure have been creating and glazing bowls and working on Hunger Haikus this past month in preparation for the 3rd Annual Empty Bowls Community Dinner. Last night our community members were able to glaze some beautiful bowls as well. Thank you to the many artists of all ages who joined us for a delicious community meal hosted by the Champlain Islands Farmer’s Market (Amazing lasagna, beautiful salad and bread, and yummy sweets!). Really, if you have not attended one of these community meals, you must put it on the calendar-tasty and a wonderful time with old and new friends and neighbors. Thanks to Folsom’s own Art Teacher Jamie Bedard for supporting this wonderful night.

Mark your calendar for the Amazing Empty Bowls Community Dinner at the Grand Isle School on Saturday January 28th from 4-7. Local music, wonderful raffle prizes, and of course handcrafted bowls with a choice of tasty soup to warm our bellies. Bring friends and neighbors.

Help End Hunger in Our Community (Did you know 1 in 4 Grand Isle County residents are food insecure?) Empty Bowls is an international effort to fight hunger in our communities. In exchange for a suggested donation of $5 per person or $20 per family you will enjoy a simple dinner of soup and bread, and keep a handcrafted bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. Last year, Empty Bowls raised $4000 to fight hunger here in our Champlain Islands and the world. This year’s benefactors are Grand Isle County Food Shelf, Food For Thought, CIDER meals program, and 52Kids Foundation. Check us out on www.Facebook.com/ChamplainIslandsEmptyBowls.
