Please support our Students with disabilities in the Penguin Plunge. Please consider picking one of the kids in the team list with no sponsors and support them. Below is an article from the BHS newsletter describing how Unified Sports is funded:
2017 Penguin Plunge!
In 1996 a few hardy souls jumped into Lake Champlain during the Burlington Winter Carnival and raised $8,000 for Special Olympics Vermont. Today, the Penguin Plunge is Special Olympics Vermont’s largest annual fundraising effort with events in North Bennington and Burlington. In 2016, 1,200 brave souls jumped into Vermont’s icy lakes raising a record breaking $474,000 to support sports training and competition for athletes with intellectual disabilities. This year the BHS Unified teams and the BHS Hero’s are combining forces to create the biggest Penguin Plunge Team BHS has ever had! Our goal is to raise at least $10,000!! And we need your help!
Here’s why: Part of the money we raise is given back to BHS to help support and sustain our Unified Sports Programs. These are programs that pair up students with disabilities and students without to compete side by side. These programs are not possible without the money we raise from this event.
