Peacham Library Winter Lecture Series
Design and the Science of Learning
Geoffry Fried, Professor of Design at Lesley University College of Art and Design, whose areas of academic focus and expertise include typography, graphic design, and design education.
In 1862 Leo Tolstoy wrote: “The best teacher will be he who has at his tongue’s end the explanation of what it is that is bothering the pupil.” More than 150 years later the science of learning gives us a more precise view of those frustrations, showing us how we all learn, across many disciplines and subjects. In this talk I discuss how we can apply science of learning to teaching in Design and the Visual Arts, providing some examples of what it really takes to teach students to be “creative.”
A 30-minute talk followed by a lively, but moderated, discussion. Future Winter Lecture Series talks will be held on the January 26 and February 9 and 23. Visit peachamlibrary.org for more details.
