Past event

The Craftsbury Energy Committee will be hosting the documentary "GrowthBusters: Hooked on Growth" on Wed. 1/18, 7:00 - 8:30 PM, at the Craftsbury Public Library. From their website: "The 'GrowthBusters' documentary looks into the psychology of denial and crowd behavior and examines the cultural barriers that prevent us from reacting rationally to the evidence current levels of population and consumption are unsustainable. It asks why the population conversations are so difficult to have. Why it's more important to our society to have economic growth than clean air. Why communities see and subsidize growth even when it destroys quality of life and increases taxes. Water shortage, water pollution, hunger, peak oil, and species extinction, etc., are all part of a deeper pro-growth problem. We'll hear from leading thinkers of our time - scientists sociologists, economists - to help us separate fact from superstition and encourage us to examine the beliefs and behaviors we must leave behind." This is a 54 minute documentary and there will be a discussion after the showing.
