Tai Chi for Health: Tuesday, January 17, 1:00-3:00, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Bennington, 108 School Street, Bennington. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese movement form. It uses sequences of flowing motions to build internal strength. Today, most people practice Tai Chi to relax and improve their health. Tai Chi for health uses simple, gentle movements that are easy to learn and suitable for people of all movement abilities. Movements can be learned and practiced sitting or standing. Students are encouraged to keep movements within their comfort zone. With regular practice, students may find improvements in strength, balance and stress management. The class will begin with a short introduction followed by a warm up, learning some basic Tai Chi movements, practicing a sequence and end with a cool down followed by tea and time for questions and reflection. Kathleen McBrien has been certified by the Tai Chi for Health Institute to teach both the Tai Chi for Diabetes and Tai Chi for Arthritis for Fall Prevention program. This is a chemical- and scent-free event sponsored by VT Center for Independent Living.
