The January 18 selection for Talk About Books is "Euphoria" by Lily King. This book comes highly recommended by the NY Times as one of the 10 best books of 2014.
Euphoria is an historical novel based on events in the life of anthropologist Margaret Mead. In the 1920's anthropology was in its infancy until Mead published her ground-breaking work, "Coming of Age in Samoa". KIng has created a story around a particular later event, a 1933 field trip down the Sepik River in New Guinea during which Mead and her second husband collaborated with another anthropologist she would eventually marry. King tells a captivating story of intellectual exploration, ego and desire.
Talk About Books meets every third Wednesday of the month at 6:30 at the Guilford Free Library. All are welcome to join the discussion and to recommend the next book selection. You can order your copy from the Catamount Library Network online at www.guilfordfreelibraryvt.org or call the library at 257-4603.
