The American Red Cross is holding an important meeting for Addison County residents on Monday, October 28th and we would very much appreciate it if you would consider attending and if you would help spread the word to County residents.

Last year, across our Red Cross region (all of Vermont & 12 communities in N.H.’s Upper Valley), the Red Cross was called upon 179 times to respond in the wake of disaster/emergency. This is an increase of 70% over the past four years. Over 90% of our responses relate to house and apartment fires. At present, in Addison County, we have only a handful of volunteers. We are working to build out this volunteer corps to ensure that we can provide timely responses to county residents. There are times now where volunteers from Rutland and Chittenden counties provide our response in Addison County.

No prior experience or specific skill set is required to become a Red Cross volunteer and any training that is needed is provided at no cost. We know that there exists a corps of compassionate and dedicated individuals in Addison County and your help in spreading the word of this upcoming meeting will help us connect with these folks and allow us to create a robust corps of volunteers.
