Come shake of some of the tension of the season for a great cause!
Vermont Access to Reproductive Freedom was started in 2000 when George W took office. For 16 years, VARF has helped women pay for abortions. Vermont has no restrictive abortion laws however it is very hard for women to access legal medical care due to financial and geographic barriers. There are only three places (all Planned Parenthoods - thank you Planned Parenthood) that you can get a surgical abortion and when you get past a certain number of weeks, women have to leave Vermont because our hospital is not a provider. This often means missing two days of work, finding childcare, transportation, overnight accommodations (sometimes for two night), plus $2,000 to pay for the procedure (which insurance/medicaid will no longer cover because they are out of network). There are also women in Vermont who can get an abortion here but don't want to use their insurance because they might be in an unsafe living situation with a partner or parent who they need to hide the procedure from. Those women also have to pay out of pocket. And there are women with no insurance....
It's heavy, right?
Luckily, there are really fun, upbeat, positive ways to help mitigate this gloomy reality - show up, contribute some money, and shake your groove thing!
If you are in favor of reproductive rights, economic justice, and dancing, this is your event.
