Redistricting report in North Ave News from Bill Keogh is correct -- 8 Wards, 4 "precincts," and 12 Councilor plan has been referred to Charter Change Committee to scrutinize the charter to see what changes are required, if any. It was noted that "precincts" are smaller than wards (front back in the day when we had Aldermen), so another word will be substituted for "precincts." Why the charter still reads Aldermen, we don't know.

City redistricting website, and the Free Press got it wrong -- so thanks to Bill and the North Ave News for putting out reliable information. Some people think it doesn't matter what we call the large and small districts, but in addition to the Charter we have resolutions and requirements for Ward representation (for example on CDBG Board) that will revert to the four large districts unless we either change every reference to Wards, or maintain the small districts as Wards. The 8th ward will be in the area of growth in the city, around the university.

The next meeting of the Charter Change Committee will be Wednesday October 23, 5-6pm, (location tba) right before our NPA meeting.
