The historic bells of Montpelier's Trinity United Methodist Church will be rung from Noon to 12:30pm on Thanksgiving!!!
The program will include 'America', 'This Land is Your Land', 'Over the River and Through the Woods', 'We Gather Together', 'Holsworthy Church Bells', 'Now Thank We All Our God', 'All Creatures of Our God and King', 'For the Beauty of the Earth', 'Hail Thee Festival Day', 'Simple Gifts', and 'Amazing Grace.'
Michael Loris will play the unrestored 1908 McShane chime of ten bells (the only completely original tower bell instrument in Vermont), and the matching 1872 bass bell (or 'bourdon'), one of the largest bells in the Green Mountain State (2,552 lbs.).
The 11 bronze bells weigh nearly five tons(!), and are played by hand. The diatonic chime is completely mechanical, and was designed for the keys of C major and F major:
Bb
B C D E F G A B C D
For the sixth consecutive year, Christmas carols will be played on the bells at Noon on the 19th through 24th of December, after the Christmas Eve service, and before the Christmas Day service.
We hope you enjoy the bells and have a blessed Thanksgiving!
