Last month, you may have seen the plans unveiled in Richmond and Huntington for a new dam to replace the old, leaky one now holding back the waters of Gillett Pond.
The benefits to our communities will be enormous -- for the health and future of the pond, its wildlife, and the recreational opportunities it provides.
What's needed now are ideas -- LOTS of ideas from LOTS of people -- for making the dam a reality.
We also need people with a wide range of skills. Those could include running events. Writing grant applications. Articulating and illustrating what's at stake. Creating a buzz within our community and beyond. And everything else essential to saving this local treasure.
We're inviting you to be part of that success. Please bring your thoughts and ideas for saving the pond to Camels Hump Middle School at 7 p.m. on November 29. And thanks in advance.
(PS: If you can't come, but would like to be involved in the project to save the pond, please drop a note to SaveGillettPond@gmail.com.)
