For a stimulating end to the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend, all are cordially invited to an Open House Exhibit of the carvings of the Endangered Alphabets Project at the home of Elizabeth Magnuson, 1212 Thompsons Point Rd, Charlotte.
Tim Brookes - a longtime Vermont resident, author of 16 books, and NPR commentator - created the Endangered Alphabets to preserve indigenous and minority cultures worldwide by making unique carved artwork out of their endangered forms of writing.
Since first exhibited in 2010, the Endangered Alphabets have attracted the attention of linguists, anthropologists, artists, typographers, calligraphers and human rights activists across the globe. The carvings have been on display at universities, galleries, libraries and cultural organizations here in Vermont, throughout the US, and internationally, including the Smithsonian Institution, but never in someone's home.
Some of the carvings from these exhibitions will be on display, along with commissioned works and other pieces, including some exquisite furniture, for sale. All proceeds will support the non-profit Endangered Alphabets Project, Inc.
Contact Elizabeth Magnuson, elizmahoney@gmail.com or 781-439-7741 for more details, including if you are interested but cannot make it on Nov 27th. The exhibit will be available for viewing by appt. from Sunday, Nov 20 - Saturday, Dec. 4.
