Isole Dinner Club's History of British Literature

Past event
Nov 20, 2016, 4 to 7:30 PM

Please join us for our second in the Isole Dinner Club’s History of British Literature series: Chaucer and the Forme of Cury. This dinner will attempt to transport you to England at the closing of the 14th century as we pilgrimage through art and food from London to Canterbury sampling dishes from the gilded dinners of Richard the II as well as the pious and humble meals of knights, monks, and peasants. All recipes from the dinner will originate from the first cookbook written in English, a Forme of Cury, compiled in Chaucer’s lifetime. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/isole-dinner-club-english-literature-series-chaucer-and-a-forme[...]097

Guests will partake in a multi-dished three + course historical dinner prepared by chef Richard Witting as well as a tasting of contemporaneous beverages curated and narrated by historian Adam Krakowski of Yankee Brewing News.

In addition a biography of Chaucer's life, the history of the text, an overview of tales, and a sample reading of the text in Middle English will be presented by UVM Professor Chris Vaccaro while the event space will be transformed by designer Dana Heffern incorporating historical stained-glass works by Emily Stoneking and brought alive by a performance of Medeival songs by the New Moon Singers. The specific location (in the Burlington area) will be announced to ticket holders 2 days prior to the event. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/isole-dinner-club-english-literature-series-chaucer-and-a-forme[...]097
