Preview of Oct. 21 City Council Meeting

Past event
Oct 21, 2013, 6 to 10 PM

Dear Neighbors - This Monday, the City Council will convene its second of two regular meetings for the month of October.

( Please note we will be having a special meeting on October 28 and I believe our only agenda item will be a public forum beginning at 6pm and Council debate and vote on resolutions relating to the basing of the F35 at the Burlington International Airport.)

The Council meeting this Monday will begin at 6pm. We will have a one hour public forum devoted solely to the gun-related charter changes we will be voting on later Monday evening.

Our agenda will begin at 7pm. On our agenda for the Council meeting, we will hear three City Commission/Board annual reports: one from the Housing Board of Review, the Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Planning Commission.

We will then be voting on appointments to fill openings on the Church Street Marketplace Commission, Fence Viewer and the Public Works Commission.

We will be voting to approve a purchase power agreement between Burlington Electric and South Forty Solar. We also have a resolution on the acquisition of 150 Shelburne Street in the event a bid not equal in the delinquent tax and costs is made at a tax sale.

The Ordinance Committee has completed its work on the Livable Wage Ordinance and the Ordinance is on our agenda for a second public hearing and a vote by the full Council on the amendments proposed by the Committee. There have been a few minor changes to the Ordinance since the first reading a few weeks ago but they are date clarifications and a few other minor clarifications.

We will be voting on 4 gun-related charter change resolutions concerning police seizure of firearms during a domestic abuse incident; concerning safe storage of firearms; concerning a ban on firearms in any establishment with a liquor license; and concerning concealed firearm permits.

We will then have council committee reports, comments from councilors and the Mayor. Please keep in mind that you are welcome to come to a council meeting and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm.

Clickable agenda items can be found on the City's website:
http://burlingtonvt.gov/CityCouncil/Agendas-and-Minutes---DMS-Documents/City-Council/2013/20[...]da/ Please keep in mind that at all Council meetings are televised live on Channel 317 on Burlington Telecom.

As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please email or give me a call over the weekend or on Monday.

All my best,
Karen
