Community Thanksgiving Service: Tues, Nov. 22

Past event
Nov 22, 2016, 7 to 8:30 PM

A number of area congregations are jointly planning a Community Thanksgiving Service to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 222 Missisquoi St. in Enosburg.

The public is invited to attend the service, which will include traditional Thanksgiving hymns such as “We gather together” and “Come, ye thankful people, come.” Scriptures have been chosen to focus on the theme of giving thanks, and there will be special music and prayers of gratitude to God for the blessings of life. Pastor Tim Stetson of Richford Baptist Church will preach on the theme of “Counting Our Blessings.”

An offering will be taken to benefit the Enosburg Food Shelf. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the service in the St. John’s Parish Hall.

Congregations participating in the service include: Enosburg United Methodist Church, with Pastor John Bly; Franklin United Church, with Pastor Jason McConnell; Richford First Baptist Church, with Pastor Tim Stetson; St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, with Pastor Karl Hahr and Parochial Vicar Soosai Raj; Abundant Life Church, with Pastor Lyle Willey; Lighthouse Assembly of God, with Pastor Pat Hoadley; and St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, with Pastor Titus Presler.

Tuesday, Nov. 22, was chosen for the service in order to occur before people go away for Thanksgiving and avoid complicating gatherings with visiting family members on Wednesday. There is a long tradition of area churches coming together to celebrate Thanksgiving, with the last such service having occurred in 2014, also at St. John the Baptist Church.
