Dinner-Dance Fundraiser for Rise-Up Bakery Nov. 19

Past event
Nov 19, 2016, 6 to 10 PM

The aroma of wood-fired pizza and the sounds of swing music will fill Barre’s Old Labor Hall, 46 Granite St., on November 19 to benefit the restoration of the Union Cooperative Bakery, part of the historic site. Built by granite workers in 1913, the wood-fired bakery, like the Labor Hall, is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The benefit will feature dinner by Woodbelly Pizza from 6 to 8 PM, with stories about the bakery and its role in Barre’s history at 7. Dancing to the big band sounds of Green Mountain Swing will follow from 8 to10 PM.

The benefit is part of the Barre Historical Society’s effort to renovate the long unused building. Once actively supported by Barre’s immigrant Italian workers, the building had fallen into serious disrepair. A recent Kickstarter campaign allowed renovations to begin. Other small grants and volunteers, including teens from YouthBuild, have also contributed to the project.

Once restored, the bakery will serve as an educational center, available for community workshops and culinary programs.

Green Mountain Swing is a 1930s-style big band based in central Vermont. The group has performed at dances, weddings, boat cruises on Lake Champlain, and other events.

The pizza dinner will also include veggies, non-alcoholic beverages, and a cookie.

The benefit is sponsored by the Barre Historical Society with generous support from the Community National Bank.

Admission to the dinner and dance is $25, $10 for children 12 and under. Admission for the dance alone is $15. For more information, tickets, or reservations go to http://oldlaborhall.org/, email info@oldlaborhall.org, phone (802) 479–560, or text (802) 331-0013
