Celebrate AG Literacy Week: Film Screening & Discussion

Past event
Nov 14, 2016, 6:30 to 7:30 PM

Scout Proft and Maria Reade, of Someday Farm and NOFA-VT Farm to Community mentors, in collaboration with the Manchester Community Library and NOFA-VT, will host a free screening of a short film entitled “Unbroken Ground,” created by the Patagonia company. The movie will be shown on Monday November 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hunter Room of the Manchester Community Library.

“Unbroken Ground” explains the critical role food will play in the next frontier of our efforts to solve the environmental crisis. This 25 minute film explores four areas of agriculture that aim to change our relationship to the land and oceans. Most of our food is produced using methods that reduce biodiversity, decimate soil and contribute to climate change. We believe our food can and should be a part of the solution to the environmental crisis – grown, harvested and produced in ways that restore our land, water and wildlife. The film tells the story of four groups that are pioneers in the fields of regenerative agriculture, regenerative grazing, diversified crop development and restorative fishing.

Following the movie, Tom Hubbard, owner of Mountain View Bison in Rutland, will share his story of how and why he and his wife Lisa decided to raise bison. “Everyone else raises beef so I wanted a new challenge,” Hubbard says. Tom sells his bison meat at the Dorset and Rutland farmers markets.

Snacks will be provided courtesy of Someday Farm. This event is free of charge, open to the public, and appropriate for all ages. Manchester Community Library is located at 138 Cemetery Ave. in Manchester Center, VT. Info: 802-362-2607.
