On Sunday, November 13th at 4:00 pm Stone Valley Arts is host for DANCE Media
MIX, an afternoon of spirituous and eclectic contemporary dance at West Rutland Town
Hall, in West Rutland, VT.
The concert will showcase new dance works created and performed by select young Vermont based choreographers. DANCEmedia MIX will feature dances by Zoe Marr Hilliard, Molly Winslow Hanson, Erika Schmidt and guest artist Amia Cervantes.
The program is produced by Stone Valley Arts, a non profit arts organization based in Poultney. This concert is a fundraiser for their capital campaign. Tickets are $10 general admission and may be purchased at www.stonevalleyarts.org or at the door.
DANCERS' INFO:
Guest artist Amia Cervantes of Montpelier will present U.S. and Them, a live multimedia dance documentary utilizing complex dance movement, storytelling, and projected text and images to portray the separation of family by undocumented immigration and the flawed U.S. immigration system. The project's Artistic Director and Choreographer Amia Cervantes employs integrated media to share with others this information that she believes is crucial to the wellness of our society and our political system.The sharing of firsthand experiences, layered with movement developed from very natural human impulses, evokes dramatic thought provoking and viscerally charged reactions.
Molly Winslow Hanson danced professionally with ballet companies in California and Utah. She is currently a student a Green Mountain College and teaching ballet at Stone Valley Arts. Molly will be performing a solo piece and will also present a contemporary piece for two dancers.
Local choreographer, performer and dance educator, Zoe Marr Hilliard is presenting Tentacles a movement study that explores the motile mechanisms of tentacled sea creatures, as well as the idea of multiple individual bodies moving independently while working together as a single organism. Performing in her piece is Mary Barron, Stephanie Jones, Twyla Marr, Zoë Marr Hilliard, and Kristen Whitman.
Coordinator for this project and member of the board of directors for Stone Valley Arts, Erika Schmidt will present a jazz funk dance piece set to the music of Genesis.
