Public Hearing: City Center Phase I - Public Infrastructure

Past event
Nov 7, 2016, 7 PM

On November 8, voters will be asked to support ARTICLE I: Phase I of the City Center public infrastructure development. Phase I includes:

MARKET STREET RECONSTRUCTION
This project will reconstruct the road from Dorset Street to Hinesburg Road as a downtown street. The plan provides improved travel for vehicles, bikes, and pedestrians, as well as street lighting and stormwater management.

CITY CENTER PARK—DUMONT PARCEL
Covering more than 7 acres, a community park will be created with a design that enhances the natural setting and features. Residents, workers, visitors, and people of all ages who seek passive recreation in a wooded environment will benefit from this space. Water quality and wetland functions will be preserved, and invasive species will be removed—restoring the natural beauty

A YES vote on Article I will:

- NOT create an additional tax burden to taxpayers. (This will not increase the property tax rate.)
- Establish the TIF district, which will allow many millions of South Burlington tax dollars to stay in our community—to strengthen our City Center public infrastructure.
- Create a modern main street with ample room for transit, bike, and pedestrian traffic.
- Serve as a catalysst for the continued build-out of a South Burlington downtown.
- Create a vibrant gathering place and community natural area.
