Nicaragua Meets Calais Elementary!
Cultural Arts and Education Exchange
Student Performance on Thursday, November 3rd
6:00-7:00pm
From Tuesday, November 1st through Friday, November 4th, Calais Elementary School students will be visited by cultural artists in residence from Nicaragua! The visitors are part of Planting Hope, the Montpelier-based, non-profit organization which promotes education and cultural exchanges in Nicaragua and Vermont.
Students will learn basic Spanish language, traditional, folkloric dance and songs, and visual arts.
The culmination of our week’s activities will happen on the evening of Thursday, November 3rd from 6:00-7:00pm in a community-wide event in the Calais Elementary Gym.
Families and community members are invited to come and watch students perform what they’ve learned about Nicaraguan in this free, school-wide presentation.
At the evening community event, Planting Hope and a visiting painter will have crafts from Nicaragua for sale, including bracelets, woven products, paintings and Nicaraguan coffee. Prices range from $4-$30 and checks and cash are accepted.
