A free public lecture open to all by Dr David Lightbody will be hosted by the Burlington Egyptology Group.
Fletcher Free Library at 6pm-7pm on 1st November.
The title of the talk is "Exploring encircling falcon symbolism on a unique group of Old Kingdom pharaonic temple vases"
At this public lecture Dr Lightbody will present the results of a 2 year investigation of avian symbolism on a unique group of Ancient Egyptian temple vases.
The ancient vases are decorated with complex symbolism including Horus, shen rings, and include texts honoring the pharaoh's extended names.
The research shows that they were integral to the rituals held within the temples and necropolises of Old Kingdom Egypt.
Furthermore, the talk will explore how the vases can help us better understand the more enigmatic aspects of those sacred spaces.
This research was recently published in Göttinger Miszellen vol. 249.
Finally, a summarized version of the talk will be given at the Society for the Study of Egyptian Antiquities annual colloquium 'Masterworks of Ancient Egyptian Art' on November 6th at 11:35am.
