All the health care reform talk is about the health care exchange -- which doesn't affect Medicare recipients -- but there hasn't been much attention on Accountable Care Organizations -- which do. ACOs can be created under the Affordable Care Act to coordinate health care for Medicare patients, with a goal of better care and cost savings. Medicare recipients are assigned to an ACO, and the ACO gets a share of any cost savings.
There are several ACOs that have been formed in Vermont, and the largest is OneCare Vermont. It will hold a "town hall meeting" on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Montpelier High School cafeteria to answer questions and hear feedback.
