Educators and Human Service Providers: You're Invited!
In this series of three classes you will mostly learn by doing, including short mindfulness exercises involving the five senses plus several practices focused on mindfulness of thinking and emotions. You will be encouraged to adapt these practices and the stories, poems, metaphors, and humor used to frame them to your unique circumstances. Wear comfortable clothing, be prepared to go outside, be quiet, share, and laugh.
Our instructor, Amir Flesher, has conducted mindfulness programs in Vermont and in other states. Writing about his work, he has noted: "When practicing mindfulness we engage in direct investigation of sensations, thoughts, emotions, and perceptions in order to learn to be habitually open, curious, and responsive to whatever life brings, both the parts we like, and the parts we don't. As educators and human service providers, mindfulness is a useful tool to deal with both the many stressors of the job and a suite of skills that can be shared with students and clients." Participants will have ample opportunity ask questions, reflect on their practice, and build a sense of community with like-minded individuals by hearing the reflections in a safe and supportive environment.
Class meets three times at 4-6 pm on 10/25, 11/8, and TBD
