Classical Music for Piano and Accordion, Oct. 29

We will be hosting Annemieke and Jeremiah McLane at our house for a unique evening of music for piano and accordion on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7pm. They will perform their own arrangements of classical works based on traditional folk melodies from the 18th to the 21st centuries. Included in the program are compositions of Astor Piazzolla, Edvard Grieg, Francis Poulenc, Anton Dvořák, Alan Hovhaness, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Originally from the Netherlands, Annemieke Spoelstra McLane earned her Master’s degree in Piano Performance at Zwolle Conservatory. At age 21, she won the National Young Music Talent (Netherlands) competition for piano accompaniment. In 2001 she was a finalist in Paris at the international Nadia and Lili Boulanger competition. Since January 2004, she has been a US resident living in Vermont. She performs solo, teaches piano at St. Michael’s College and at her studio, and coaches vocalists and instrumentalists for auditions, competitions and performance. She has served as accompanist for the Boston Conservatory, the Vermont Youth Orchestra choruses, the Thetford Chamber Singers, the Concertato Singers, and the Saint Michael's College chorale, and is now pianist for the Handel Society of Dartmouth College. Annemieke's first album Toccare was released in the fall 2009. “One word for the Schubert: mesmerizing” (Seven Days); “One of Vermont's finest pianists” (The Times Argus).

Jeremiah McLane is a composer, accordionist, pianist and teacher with a diverse musical background including blues, jazz, Celtic, Québécois, French and other roots-influenced music. In the early 1990s he formed The Clayfoot Strutters and Nightingale, two bands that have helped shape the sound of traditional New England roots music. He holds a Master’s degree in Contemporary Improvisation from the New England Conservatory of Music and is the founder-director of the Floating Bridge Music Camp. He has been an adjunct faculty member of the State University of New York, Plattsburgh, and of the University of Vermont. He teaches regularly at summer music programs throughout the United States and has performed throughout the United States and Europe. In addition to teaching and performing, Jeremiah has also composed numerous pieces for film and theatre. He received National Public Radio's “favorite picks” award in 2006 for his second solo recording, Smile When You're Ready, and the French music magazine Trad Mag's “BRAVO” award in 2013 for his fifth release, Hummingbird.
