The Association of Vermont Conservation Commissions is hosting our annual Conservation Summit on Saturday Oct 22nd at Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee.

The Summit is a daylong educational and networking event for community volunteers engaged in planning and caring for natural resources. Attendees will have the opportunity to share experiences and ideas on the many issues communities face in managing natural resource assets, from town forests to town plans.

This year the theme is “Celebrating PLACE.” We’ll be exploring different aspects of this idea in presentations and discussions throughout the day. Our keynote speaker, Walter Poleman, has 25 years of experience engaging communities in explorations of their town’s natural and cultural history, through education and celebration. The PLACE program has offered communities in-depth explorations of how their local cultural and natural histories merge into the landscape we see today.

For concurrent sessions, we have a diverse array of exciting opportunities on taking conservation forward: from ANR’s “basic training” on Vermont’s Ecology and Environment, to Perspectives on Effective Conservation Commission leadership, as well as Partnering with Land Trusts and Starting a Conservation Fund and several more!

Pre-registration is strongly encouraged by October 10 and costs $35 for AVCC members and $45 for non-members, and includes lunch. To register go to: www.vtconservation.com/conservation_summit.
