Job Summary

The primary responsibility of the Front Porch Forum Marketing Interns is to increase brand recognition and recruit new members from around Vermont to join Front Porch Forum.

Interns will staff tables at pre-existing summer events across the state, such as festivals and farmers' markets, primarily on weekends and summer evenings. Tabling involves enthusiastically and knowledgeably engaging with event attendees, giving away FPF materials, conducting FPF games, and encouraging attendees to join FPF. In most cases, events would be attended by two interns simultaneously, and occasionally accompanied by FPF staff.

Interns will also create social media content highlighting FPF members they meet on-site and celebrating the uniqueness of each town.

The internship spans eight weeks in June - August 2025, approximately 10-15 hours per week. Flexible start/end dates. Availability on occasional evenings and one day of most summer weekends required. Exact schedule will be available by late spring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Travel around the state, using personal transportation, to farmers markets, summer festivals, and community events
  • Enthusiastically and knowledgeably engage with event coordinators and attendees, giving away FPF materials, conducting FPF games, and encouraging attendees to sign up for FPF
  • Must be able to transport, lift, set up, and break down a pop-up canopy tent, table, and banners at events. Display FPF materials on the table in a neat, professional fashion
  • Wear a Front Porch Forum shirt/sweatshirt/hat while representing the organization
  • Present oneself professionally in appearance and demeanor
  • Debrief on events with the Director and adjust plans as the season evolves
  • Create social media content highlighting meeting members and celebrating the uniqueness of each town
  • Attend staff meetings and meet with Team Directors to learn about FPF management

  • Passion for FPF's community-building mission as a nationally recognized public benefit corporation
  • An understanding of how small businesses, nonprofits, and local government help Vermont towns thrive
  • Enthusiastic, engaging, outgoing personality
  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Familiarity and ability to describe FPF, with ease, to people without knowledge of the platform
  • Ability to work independently
  • Possess valid driver's license for a minimum of one year with a clean driving record and have access to reliable transportation that will enable intern to transport materials to scheduled events around the state, up to three hours away
  • Use of personal smartphone will be required to collect content for social media

Desired Experience

Successful applicants will have the following professional experiences:

  • Track record of excellent customer service experience and ability to work independently
  • Proven commitment to community building, volunteering, civic/social movements
  • Knowledge and skill in producing social media content
  • High school degree, some college preferred

Work Environment

This is a flexible position requiring variable start and end times, with primarily off-site, in-person work, and some team meetings at FPF’s Burlington, VT office. Must be located within one hour of Burlington. FPF’s office is on the second floor of a building, accessible only by stairs. Minimal remote work requires a quiet space dedicated to work and reliable, secure, high-speed internet access.

Compensation

This is an hourly position. Mileage will be reimbursed for car travel to events. FPF is an equal-opportunity employer supporting diversity and racial justice.

Salary

Pay rate is $20/hour
