Garden Seminars

My name is Jim Daigle and I have over 3,000 hostas and over 650 varieties. I love the leaves of my part shade-garden plants. I enjoy giving free tours and offering free seminars to help other people to learn the world of shade plants. I offer a 3-hour seminar with details below.

3-hour seminars will be from 9am – 12pm. They are scheduled for May 19th, June 9th, June 15th, July 21st, and August 3rd.

The 3-hour seminar will cover the following:
Tour—multiple gardens with over 3,000 hostas, 650 varieties, and dozens of companion plants. On this tour I will be telling about the history of hostas, and many things I have learned by trial and error over the past 60 years. You will see the different materials I have used to make my raised beds.
Dividing hostas properly
Making a compost from scratch
Improving soil rapidly
Designing a shade garden
I have potted a good number of hostas and other shade plants so we can move them around to make our garden.
Sit back, look at our garden, and make changes if necessary.

Free gifts – for all attending a 3-hr. hosta seminar; pieces of different plants to add to your gardens and a bag of compost starter.
Email (jim.hostas@gmail.com) to get directions and to schedule a time to come and/or to reserve a place on a seminar. Please share this with friends that you would like as garden buddies or other shade garden enthusiasts.

Check-out New Hampshire Hostas or just NH Hostas. They have a lot of varieties and are good quality. Also look at the size of the containers—which only have baby roots; all of mine have adult roots--and their prices are more than for those with my adult roots.
Also check local nurseries. I have the best prices and the largest number of varieties of hostas and some other shade garden plants. People have often commented on how healthy all my plants are.

I also offer a 2-hour seminar with details below, and the dates.
Free 2-hour seminar
Improving soil --This seminar will teach you how to get poor soil converted into soil that your hostas and shade plants will thrive in, with most of the ingredients right in your own yard.
Making your own pieces of yard art could be the center point of your gardens. My favorite ones are the overturned roots of a fallen tree, driftwood, logs, or pieces of wood that look like some creature. The first one is the "Mice Family" with holes drilled in a log, the cat watching over them; the second one is a piece of wood I found in my woods that looked like a whale -"Blow Hole". I drilled a hole in the top and planted "Slim and Trim" hosta in the hole.
If interested email jim.hostas@gmail.com for more information and directions, and what you will need to make bring.
The seminar will be 9am-11am. Dates of the 2-hour seminars will be May 4, May 26; June 1, June 23; July 13; September 1.
