L.C. JAZZ FREE SWING DANCE AND FUNDRAISER

L.C. Jazz, Vergennes' Premier Big Band, will present a free swing dance and fundraiser Saturday, April 20, 2024, 7:30 - 9:45 pm, at the Vergennes Opera House. This is an encore presentation of the 18-piece ensemble following their annual Valentine's Day Weekend event in Vergennes. Featured will be music by Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and many others. Dance styles will include fast, medium, and slow swing, ballad, Latin, waltz, and rock. A cash bar provided by Hired Hand Brewers in Vergennes will open at 6:30 pm.

L.C. Jazz Scholarship Fund
Since 1992, L.C. Jazz musicians have donated their talents to do paid performances. All of those funds are given as music scholarships to high school seniors from Vergennes UHS, Mt. Abraham UHS, and Middlebury UHS who are going to college to study the fine arts. To date, the band has contributed almost $40,000. Some of those students have been featured in L.C. Jazz performances.

Vergennes Opera House All Access Project
The Friends of the Vergennes Opera House organization has embarked on a project to install an external elevator and to make other accessibility improvements. It will provide access to all levels of this historic building including the city offices, dressing rooms, main floor, and stage. Grant writing and public appeals have continued for about two years for the $1.6 million proposal. About 80% of the cost has been secured, with the rest expected to come from private donations. Ground-breaking is scheduled for May, 2025.
