Author Belinda Rathbone on her book "The Boston Raphael"
Belinda Rathbone is no stranger to biographical writing. She has written and published critically acclaimed works on Walker Evans, Paul Strand and Alfred Stieglitz. In her latest book she investigates the details of her father’s in involvement in an art museum controversy and mystery. This is an amazing triumph for the Mount Holly Library to have Ms. Rathbone agree to an author appearance in our little hamlet. Perry Rathbone, the author’s father, was director of The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston from 1955–1972. As the subtitle indicates this is a book about “A Mysterious Painting, an Embattled Museum in an Era of Change, and a Daughter’s Search for the Truth”. Sebastian Smee of the Boston Globe describes Rathbone’s new book “The Boston Raphael” as “perhaps the most exciting book on the art world since Jonathan Harr’s “The Lost Painting”.” Join us on Sunday, November 16th at 4 pm to meet Belinda Rathbone and vicariously view art world intrigue. Hear about art museum power struggles and the intricacies of a pivotal event in the her father’s life. This event is co-sponsored by the Book Nook, Ludlow, Vermont.
