Lamoille North Modified Unified Elementary Budget Meeting
Where: Lamoille Union Campus, GMTCC Community Education Center
When: Monday, May 13, 2024 at 6:00 P.M.

On Monday, May 13, 2024, at 6:00 p.m., the Lamoille North School Board will hold a Budget Information Meeting for the revised FY25 Modified Unified Elementary School District budget.

The meeting will be held in the Community Education Center inside the GMTCC main entrance.

On April 22, the School Board opted to make a token $50 adjustment to the budget to give their communities more time to learn the impact of deeper cuts and to participate more fully in the discussion regarding their elementary education budget.

Please join your School Board on Monday evening to ask any questions you have regarding the revised FY25 budget. Your participation is crucial as we discuss what remaining budget resources the Board has available for reductions and the impacts of further reductions on the services provided to students and families in your communities.

A livestream link will also be available for those who cannot attend in person. The following link will be accessible Monday evening and can also be found on the LNSU website and social media accounts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m4inzIk4Ew

With so many school budgets now locked in for the 2024-2025 school year, the total amount of funding needed across Vermont is nearly set. The legislature will soon adjourn and looks prepared to pass a property tax bill that assumes a statewide increase in ed spending of around 10.7% (Vermont Public Article May 7, 2024: Dozens of VT school districts remain without a budget). Because education spending in Vermont comes from one statewide pot of money, other already approved budgets are forcing an increase here locally.

To reiterate, the Lamoille North school board believes the budget before voters is fiscally responsible and will allow the district to continue offering our students the current level of services in the year ahead. It does not contain any new programs or services.

Additionally, as noted in the Vermont Public article, communities are past the point of their school budget vote impacting decision-making in Montpelier. Lamoille North needs to do what is right for students and families by providing them with the necessary resources to succeed.

Please join us on Monday at 6:00 p.m. in the CEC to continue this conversation and to fully understand the impact of further budget revisions.
