GIVING TUESDAY IS DECEMBER 1, 2020 - PARTNERS IN ADVENTURE NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT to continue forging vital relationships with peers and the community through active, meaningful, shared experiences. This past summer was our 22nd year of summer camps, we at Partners In Adventure realized the impossibility of providing a "hands-on" experience for our fragile campers, but our staff and parents agreed that a summer without camp was not an option. Luckily our veteran camp staff had recently spent a winter running virtual classrooms in the public schools. We were convinced that they could apply that experience to creating a "virtual" summer camp. We set up a private Google Classroom. We offered six weeks of interactive videos, at least 4 a week along with an interactive ZOOM session once a week. They were made available any time of the day to our campers and their families and featured beekeeping, gardening, music therapy, songs, African drumming, yoga, dance, animal care UVM Physical Therapy students produced an interactive video and more. We distributed arts and craft kits and offered immediate technical support to families. Our PIA staff and campers all learned new things through this experience. Our "PIA Virtual Camp" that was nothing short of awesome, a safe community refuge and exciting new experiences AND WE DID ALL OF THIS FREE OF CHARGE! We DID pay for many of our workshops to be produced, along with staff salaries, workshop materials, storage facility rental and administrative costs. Our two annual fundraisers had to be cancelled, so with no recent income from the annual fundraisers and no incoming tuition from summer camp in the foreseeable future, we will be going into next season without much financial fortification. Regardless, we are proceeding with plans for a "normal" summer in 2021. There is no way of knowing what's going to happen next year, but we have faith Partners In Adventure will eventually return to normal.
