Start off the new year with the friendly dancers at the Montpelier Contra Dance this Saturday, January 4th. First dance of the new year will feature Luke Donforth calling, with great live music by Atlantic Crossing.
Luke will be leading the "newcomers" session at about 7:45 PM, with his relaxed and friendly teaching style. He'll teach and call enjoyable, social dances for everyone from 8:00 to 11:00. These intro lessons are a great way to get into the swing of things for folks new to contra dancing, or anyone who wants a "refresher".
Luke is a Burlington-based caller who gets hired to call dances at festivals and dance series around the country. He's written lots of dances which other callers enjoy calling as well.
Atlantic Crossing is based on the shores of Lake Champlain, and has been getting dancers up and having fun for over 20 years! They've played their mix of American, Canadian and British tunes for dancing at our series many times, and are always a hit.
Join us beforehand for the Grange "Community Potluck Dinner from 6:00 to 7:00 at the Grange Hall! Share your favorite dish, or bring something simple, and enjoy good food and friendly people.
Tips for dancers: bring clean shoes for dancing on "one of the best dance floors in New England", or clean them up with our tools. Wear light, comfortable clothing. Bring a water bottle, or keep hydrated with our water fountains. Come by yourself and find dance partners in our inclusive group, and bring your friends along! All of our dances are called using the role terms "Larks & Ravens".
