**TONIGHT 6pm** Join Bridgeside Books for 'China in Another Time A Personal Story' by Claire Lintilhac
China in Another Time is a book for educators, students, and everyone who would like to understand better how traditional China became the nation it is today. Vermont author Doug Wilhelm has brought this amazing story to life and will be presenting.
About the Book:
Claire Lintilhac (1899-1984) was born in rural China, the daughter of a Canadian physician. She became a traveling nurse, then later began a family in Shanghai; and except for the World War II years, she lived in China until 1950, when Lintilhac, her British husband and their young son left after witnessing the first year of Communist rule. Lintilhac moved to Stowe in 1958 after her husband's passing, and lived there for the rest of her life. In the early 1970s she created the Lintilhac Foundation, which is based today in Shelburne and continues to support maternal and child health, informed public discourse and science-based environmental action in Vermont.
Late in her life, Lintilhac wrote a memoir and recorded 15 hours of storytelling of her China years. Many years later, Vermont author Doug Wilhelm wove those accounts into China in Another Time, adding brief historical articles. The book features an introduction by an eminent China scholar, the late Nicholas R. Clifford of Middlebury College, along with photos from Lintilhac's family albums and other historical sources, and the author's pen-and-ink drawings of the intimate China she knew.
