Cecilia Zabala Trio, with Eugene Friesen and Eugene Uman
At the Congregational Church of Westminster West!
Thursday, July 25, One for All Arts Management is delighted to present global recording artist Cecilia Zabala of Buenos Aires, accompanied by two of the brightest lights on the Southern VT music scene, the celebrated cellist, Eugene Friesen, and Vermont Jazz Center director, Eugene Uman on piano, 7:30 pm, at the Congregational Church of Westminster West (VT).
Cecilia Zabala is a rising star on the world music scene, a celebrated guitarist, vocalist and composer, with 10 CDs and 15+ years of international touring and recording experience. Born in 1975, she began playing guitar at the age of 6, went on to obtain conservatory training on voice and guitar, ultimately studying under the mentorship of the legendary Brazilian guitarist and composer Baden Powell, one of the leading innovators of the Bossa Nova era of the 1950s & '60s.
Cecilia Zabala has long been a musical force in the cultural life of Buenos Aires.
In 2019, she was awarded 1st place in a highly prestigious competition sponsored by the Argentinian Ministry of Culture, in the category of melodic jazz. Her music belies a mastery of the Iberian classical guitar tradition, as integrated with the folkloric music of Argentina & Chile and the various strains of Brazilian popular music to be heard under the umbrella known as "MPB."
As a singer/songwriter, Zabala combines elements of global jazz and folkloric music with her own personal musical vision, in a synthesis that bridges so many styles and genres that it can fairly be described as "sui generis," or without comparison. Better than try to describe it at all is to let it speak for itself. In that regard, a visit to Zabala's YouTube channel is most instructive; here, one can find a treasure trove of live performances spanning over a decade, and worth more than 1,000 words spent trying to describe her music: https://www.youtube.com/user/zabalaceci/videos
Her July 25 performance in Westminster West will be her third consecutive appearance in this area since 2017, and will be her exclusive performance in the Southern VT in 2019!
