Naturalist Mary Holland & Woodbury Library Events

Past event
Oct 11, 2017, 6:30 PM

* Beginning Oct. 7, a Saturday morning Storyhour at 10:30 a.m. is open to all community members, from infants up. Come visit with other neighbors and check out a few books.

* Naturalist, Photographer & Author Mary Holland hosts a presentation Wednesday, October 11, at 6:30 p.m. This adult and children’s author shares a multi-media presentation and hosts a lively discussion about New England’s natural history. Her award-winning Naturally Curious: a Photographic Field Guide and Month-by-Month Journey through the Fields, Woods, and Marshes of New England contains day-to-day observations, both informative and engaging about particular plant or animal activities likely to happen on that day. Mary Holland has worked at the Vermont Institute for Natural Sciences and the Massachusetts Audubon Society, and has comes with a wealth of experience and lore. Generously supported by the Woodbury Conservation Commission and the Woodbury Fund, this evening promises to inform and entertain. All are welcome. Homemade cake and hot tea served.

Also on October 11, beginning at 6 p.m. is the official adoption party of the WCL trustees’ Adopt-an-Author program. A participating patron agrees to purchase new releases from “their” author for 3 years. In return, the patron gets first-reading rights, a tax deduction, and (perhaps best of all) the library’s gratitude. Author suggestions include Louise Penny, David Baldacci, Ann Patchett, John Grisham, Michael Connelly. More locally, popular Vermont authors include Jeffrey Lent, Chris Bojahlian, Jodi Picoult, Robin MacArthur, and Woodbury resident Sean Prentiss. For juvenile literature, consider Jacqueline Woodson, Natalie Kinsey-Warnock, Jason Chin, or Katherine Paterson. Please contact the library to sign up.

* Local meteorologist Roger Hill hosts a discussion about climate change on November 8, at 6:30 p.m.
The Woodbury Community Library is located in the Woodbury Village, on Route 14, behind the Elementary School. Info? 472-5710 or woodburyvermontlibrary@gmail.com.
