Kick off your Indigenous Peoples' Day Weekend this Friday, October 7th with The Wind & The Reckoning Premiere at the Stowe Cinema from 5:30 pm - 10 pm.

The screenwriter and producer John Fusco will be doing a Q&A about his new movie which just took home 8 awards at the Boston Film Festival, and there will be live acoustic music with Joe Louis Walker, Dave Keller, Carly Harvey, and Theresa Bear Fox. Then continue your celebration the next day at the Annual Indigenous Peoples' Day Rocks! at the Mayo Fields ~ Saturday, October 8th from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm. It will be a full day of over 25 Abenaki Artists. Scrumptious eats from Taco Truck All Stars, and Red Barn's Hot Dog stand. And, the new Aladdin will be there.

Many wonderful artists will be sharing their talents, in honor and support of Indigenous Peoples. This year, in particular, we will be honoring the memory of our late friend, world-renowned Indigenous singer~songwriter~guitarist Joanne Shenandoah, who was our headliner in 2020 for the inaugural IPD Rocks!

The event is free and starts at 10:30 am, with a Welcoming of the Tribes with Chief Stevens of the Nulhegan Abenaki, a focus on traditional music, dancing, storytelling, and more. The rock and roll show will kick off around 3:30 pm with Carly Harvey, The Dave Keller Band, and our headliner for 2 years in a row now, the incomparable Mr. Joe Louis Walker.

We're also hosting a Vermont Department of Health mobile vax tent from the good folks at the Waterbury Rescue. You can get your Covid 19 boosters, and your flu shot while you're out, also visit with the Veterans, and check out our community vendor, the Stowe Land Trust.

We need a few more volunteers to help with setup and breakdown. Please reach out if you can donate a few hours of your time to help with this annual Stowe event celebrating our Indigenous people. Help is needed on Saturday morning from 7 am-10 am, and again on Sunday morning from 9 am-11 am. Community service hours abound for Middle and High School kids in any district. We'll provide IPD Rocks! schwag, and a lunch voucher to use at one of the food vendors.
