Library Tonight - India's Maher: Rising to New Life

Past event
Mar 28, 2019, 7 to 8:30 PM

Please join us at Bristol's Lawrence Memorial Library for this interesting One World Library program:

In India, Maher has supported over 4,000 children and adults in over 100 rural villages, to find dignity and self-worth.
Our local presenters - Catherine Willson and Mikaela Keepin have each visited Maher as volunteers for over a decade. They will share with us the history and work of Maher through stories, discussion and a slideshow.

In the Marathi language of Western India, Maher means Mother's Home. The non-governmental organization helps people from all over India in their right to a higher quality of life, irrespective of gender, caste, creed or religion.

Maher works to understand the root causes of violence and despair experienced by women and children in India. They provide services to address these issues and their effects in villages and slums, so that women, children and families can be healthy, happy and self-reliant.

You can also learn more about Maher at https://maherashram.org/about-maher/
The One World Library "Brings the World to our Community" through programs and a collection of books and films about world cultures.
