Seeking Intermediate or Senior Software Developer to join our team

Working with Front Porch Forum means building an incredible project, mastering your craft, enjoying competitive compensation, and working among the best in your field.

We are currently looking for an intermediate or senior-level developer to join our team. Help us deliver high-quality software as you develop new features and maintain the Front Porch Forum web application and new mobile app.

FPF is a Burlington, Vermont-based public benefit corporation. Our mission is to help neighbors connect and build community, and we do that by hosting regional networks of online local forums. FPF has incredible traction and engagement, with more than 60% of households participating in most Vermont locales. You will be working on an app that is being used daily by your Vermont neighbors to foster more resilient communities. The successful candidate will work closely with FPF's two in-house software developers, as well as engage our other 16 staff for spec development and testing.


  • Build and maintain the FPF web-based system in Rails and Node.js and our new mobile app developed in React Native
  • Collaborate with development team and FPF staff in their various roles
  • Deliver well-designed, maintainable solutions in a Lean / Agile environment
  • Continuously integrate automated software tests and deployments
  • Participate in code reviews to enforce project standards

Minimum Requirements

  • 3+ years developing software in Ruby on Rails or another language and its related back-end web development framework in a test-driven-development environment
  • 5+ years developing software in JavaScript, Ruby, Python, C#, Java or equivalent
  • Experience working with Linux/Unix systems and open-source software
  • Experience with a modern database such as Postgres, Redis, MongoDB, Cassandra
  • Demonstrable knowledge of database design, network services, solution architecture, and implementation
  • Computer Science or Software Engineering degree or equivalent experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with git and AWS-based systems
  • Client app development experience (Web, iOS or Android)
